‘Respect The Game’ promotes respectful and positive attitudes between players, coaches, referees, spectators and staff. Together we can continue to build a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment for all members of our community. Unfortunately many people within our game experience abuse. By minimising poor behaviour towards players, coaches, spectators, referees and staff we can increase the positive experiences had by those in our community.

HOW CAN YOU RESPECT THE GAME?

BE UNDERSTANDING

Remember that despite all the training and experience that players, coaches and officials undergo, we are all human.

STAY POSITIVE

Keep your emotions positive and enthusiastic. Celebrate effort and teamwork, instead of prioritising results and outcomes.

SHOW GRATITUDE

Show gratitude and appreciation to all officials, staff and volunteers. A simple ‘thank you’ can go a long way.

LEARN THE GAME

Take the time to understand the game and it’s rules. The rules and interpretations in our game are constantly being updated.

FROM THE CEO:

Most of the basketball news these days is positive, with the growth of the game in general and Hills Basketball in particular. Unfortunately, as our game continues to grow, so does the frequency of incidents involving poor behaviour between members of the basketball community. Abuse is not tolerated at Hills Basketball, whether it’s player v player or involves spectators, officials or staff. By encouraging and educating our members to ‘Respect The Game’ we will continue to build a safe and positive environment for all.”
