2022 SENIORS WEEK
WALKING BASKETBALL LIGHTS UP THE HIVE
On Tuesday 29, March, the Hills Basketball Association celebrated Seniors Week by hosting a free Walking Basketball event.
With over 25 attendees from across Sydney, we conducted 45 minutes of Walking Basketball, followed by a group morning tea with guest speakers from our Hills Basketball Association community.
This included Joanne Taylor, one of our long serving community and staff members from HBA, and Bob Cannon whom has represented and coached for Australia at the Masters level.
Joanne Taylor shared her message of how continuing to be involved in basketball has improved her physical health, but more importantly, created a lasting connection to the HBA community, gaining life long friendships. Joanne first joined the Hills Basketball Association over 20 years ago, when her daughter began playing. Since then, she has been an integral part of our community, managing teams and being the friendly face we all know at front desk.
Bob Cannon shared his incredible story of reconnecting with basketball later in life as his son looked to make a representative team. After previously retiring, Bob discovered the Masters league, and has then gone on to represent Australia across the world, even coaching the female Masters to a gold medal.
The Hills Basketball Association started our Walking Basketball program back at the end of 2019. Since then, the program has grown and our participants have improved dramatically.
Walking Basketball is back for FREE in Term 2. Find out more and register via our website here.
