REFEREE COURSES

The ASSOCIATION Referee Courses consist of Community, Development, Intermediate and Advanced. From this point Basketball NSW provides accreditation for State level grades.

The Community Referee Course is the first step for aspiring referees, providing an introduction to the basics of officiating basketball. This includes understanding fouls, violations, game administration, and court mechanics (positioning and movement). After completing the course, referees are supported on the court by an accredited official to gain practical experience.

We have adopted a new structure of offering one Community Referee Course per term. To participate, attendees must be turning 13 during the term in which the course is held.

The Development course provides more instruction on refereeing the game. The course is broad and touches upon all the major elements involved in refereeing at association levels of competition.

The Development Referee Course is for Community Qualified referees only.

To be eligible for upgrade you must register for and complete the Online Course, attend an on-court workshop and be assessed & accredited by a Referee Coach.

After gaining experience as a Development referee, this course introduces referees to the skills needed to officiate high-age junior competitions, senior competitions and junior representative (such as Under 14).

The Intermediate Referee Course is for Development Qualified referees only.
