REFEREE COURSES
The ASSOCIATION Referee Courses consist of Community, Development, Intermediate and Advanced. From this point Basketball NSW provides accreditation for State level grades.
The Community Referee Course is the first step for aspiring referees, providing an introduction to the basics of officiating basketball. This includes understanding fouls, violations, game administration, and court mechanics (positioning and movement). After completing the course, referees are supported on the court by an accredited official to gain practical experience.
We have adopted a new structure of offering one Community Referee Course per term. To participate, attendees must be turning 13 during the term in which the course is held.
The Development course provides more instruction on refereeing the game. The course is broad and touches upon all the major elements involved in refereeing at association levels of competition.
The Development Referee Course is for Community Qualified referees only.
To be eligible for upgrade you must register for and complete the Online Course, attend an on-court workshop and be assessed & accredited by a Referee Coach.

The Advanced Grade course builds on the knowledge acquired in the Development and Intermediate levels, and prepares referees for officiating Under 16 & Under 18 representative basketball and higher level senior local competitions. Junior referees should be aged at least 15 before attending this course and should be competent at all junior age groups prior to attending.
The Advanced Referee Course is for Intermediate Qualified referees and by invitation only. Advanced referee courses are held when required and are by invitation for eligible officials identified as possessing the required aptitude for the Association Advanced accreditation.
To be eligible for upgrade you must be invited to complete the face-to-face course and be assessed & accredited by a Referee Coach.
Officials will be reviewed regularly, however if you would like to be reviewed for upgrade please forward an email to officials@hillshornets.com.au with your details and an appropriate referee coach will be made available to observe your officiating.
