I AM A GIRL PROGRAM

Hills Basketball is a place where we encourage females to be involved at all levels and in all aspects of our game. Take the next step, get involved and be ambitious. We offer Hornets Academy Skills Sessions, Holiday Camps, Have-A-Go Days, Education Courses and Seminars all specifically within the I AM A GIRL Program.

It’s funny how when you really start to look at our game and the statistics what you’ll find. The stadium was at full capacity, all positions filled, the Association was successful on & off the court, however the statistics showed we lacked women in leadership roles, diversity and pathways for women. While I’m sure this issue is far bigger than Women’s Basketball, we needed methods and programs to break the cycle. 

In conjunction with building participation numbers, the Association also launched a Leadership scholarship program to incorporate female youth players, youth referees, coaches, referee coaches, statisticians, scoretable officials & sports administrators to develop both technical skills and leadership qualities.

The I AM A GIRL Leadership Program provides an opportunity for females to develop leadership skills through courses & seminars, while receiving unique opportunities to develop their preferred facet of the game – playing, refereeing, coaching or officiating.

We have a strong female involvement in basketball and this group will lead the development and ensure the sustainability of our women’s program. We hope from this campaign we will encourage females to be involved at all levels & in all aspects of our game.

The Hills Basketball Association (HBA) I am a GIRL Leadership Program will incorporate female players, referees, coaches, referee coaches, officials & media presenters and will focus on developing both their technical skills as well as their leadership skills. 

In 2021, scholarships are now part of both Basketball NSW scholarship program, providing additional benefits and seminars.

In conjunction with Hills Basketball the ‘I am a Girl’ program launched in 2016, the ‘I am a Girl’ Leadership Program is designed to strengthen the elite section of the program for females involved in our representative program. The program aims to provide a pathway and additional training and mentoring to accelerate their development. Whist doing this the Association plans to showcase their talents providing younger girls clear pathways and mentors.
