BOARD DIRECTOR | Applications
Hills Basketball Association invites applications from eligible individuals who wish to be considered to fill a Casual Vacancy on the Board. The role of a director is a voluntary position.
The Board is seeking to balance the skills across the Board and hence is considering a variety of capabilities to fill this position. Those capabilities being considered include:
- Finance
- Formal financial and or accounting qualifications at tertiary level with significant experience and success working in roles where there has been oversight of project funding and management of project funds
- An understanding of the relationship between project funding and operational strategy funds is important, so there is oversight of the financial interests of the business
- Ability to understand Management Accounts, Budgets, Forecasts. Knowledge and understanding of internal and external audit functions.
- Current qualified member of CA or CPA
- HR, Legal and Member Protection
- An understanding of employee relations, staffing contracts, and HR compliance obligations
- Risk management in the area of child protection and crisis management
- Experience in pursuing commercial, business, and property investment opportunities, with some knowledge of private equity and philanthropic funding trusts
- Compliance and Governance
- Demonstrated capacity to operate effectively and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders within the culture of Hills Basketball Association
- Understanding the compliance obligations that management needs to follow and ensure all elements of governance provide oversight of policies and procedures that are ethical and mitigate risks to the sport and the image of the association
Established in 1984, HBA has grown to become the largest and most professional basketball association within New South Wales. With a history of building and rejuvenating venues, the Association operates nine courts across three venues. HBA is affiliated with NSW Basketball and Basketball Australia, participating in many pathways across juniors and seniors, from local competition to elite basketball, including wheelchair teams and walking basketball for seniors. HBA operates as a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
The HBA Board meets each month at the Hills Basketball Association (Fred Caterson Reserve, Caterson Drive, Castle Hill). There are 10-12 Board meetings per year. If involved, committee meetings (Finance and Risk Management, Venue Management and Nominations) occur every quarter. Meetings are held in person and online.
The recruitment process is being run by the Nominations Committee who will conduct the interviews after the 2024 holiday period.
Each candidate must provide a statement addressing why they wish to be considered for this role and how their skills and capabilities can add value to the committee, in addition to, their curriculum vitae.
